Summary0005923: Unintuitive 'reference between objects' diagram
Description

Figure 4 - Examples of References between Objects

To me it feels somewhat strange to use an “organizes” reference between “Farmers” and “Joe”/”Sam” while at the same time “hasClassification” is used between “Animals” and “Dogs”/”Cats”. It is not wrong, but unclear to the reader if this is on purpose or accidental.

My proposals:
1.1 replace “organizes” by “hasClassification” OR explicitly clarify in the text that this example is meant to illustrate that it is no problem to use a mix of Reference-SuperTypes (Organizes) and Reference-Subtypes (HasClassification/Owns).
1.2 use singular instead of plural in Object names, i.e. “Farmer” instead of “Farmers”, “Animal” instead of “Animals”, “Dog” instead of “Dogs”, “Cat” instead of “Cats”

These are two different use cases:

  • Animals are further classified into dogs and cats
  • Farmers is more like a folder of individuals (in this case Joe and Sam)
